Governor Needs to Hear from Us Now!
Last week Governor Napolitano vetoed three bad bills, thanks in large part to our work!
The Legislature has now sent her three more bad bills that will hurt all Arizonans, but
especially immigrant families and their children. We are requesting that you send an e-mail
to the Governor with the following language in the subject line: Please veto HB2030, HB2592 and SB1306. Her e-mail
address is azgov@az.gov. Also, if you would copy us at AzInterfaith@aol.com that will help us track the e-mails that she is getting.
If you prefer, call her office at 602-542-4331 in Phoenix or 520-628-6580 in Tucson or
send her a fax at 602-542-1381.
Here is a brief synopsis of the content of these three bills:
HB2030 expands the scope of Proposition 200 to include child-care subsidies, adult education, utility assistance and in-state tuition for community colleges and universities. The bill would cripple adult education programs.
HB2592 prohibits cities from maintaining a day labor center if any part of it is used to facilitate the hiring of undocumented people. This bill clearly usurps local control!
SB1306 allows police to act as immigration officials and to deport undocumented immigrants. Police Chiefs and Sheriffs oppose this bill because officers are not trained in immigration matters and because they do not want these unfunded additional duties.
Thanks again for your efforts. Your voice does count!
